ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORISATION (ETA) REQUIREMENT FOR EUROPEAN VISITORS
As of today, April 2, 2025, European visitors to the UK are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before traveling. This pre-screening measure aims to enhance border security by assessing travelers before their arrival. The ETA costs £10 and is valid for multiple visits over two years or until the holder's passport expires, whichever comes first.
Applicants need to provide passport details, contact information, biometric data, and answer security questions. Decisions are typically made within three working days. Notably, Irish citizens are exempt from this requirement.
Increase in Visa and ETA Fees:
Effective April 9, 2025, the fee for an ETA will increase from £10 to £16.
Additionally, visa fees are set to rise on the same date. For instance, the fee for a short-term visit visa (up to six months) will increase from £115 to £127. These adjustments are part of the Home Office's regular review of immigration and nationality fees.
